Paul Festival is thrilled to announce that Congressman Justin Amash of Michigan’s 3rd District will be speaking on the evening of Sunday, August 26th, following the Ron Paul USF Sun Dome event. As a freshman and the second-youngest member of Congress at age 32, Amash has already proven himself to be a game-changer.
Earlier this year Congressman Amash made headlines with his Smith-Amash Amendment, which was set to repeal the indefinite detention of American citizens provision included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), that had been quietly signed into law by Obama on New Year’s Eve, 2011.
In less than 2 years in Congress, Amash has also set new standards for Congressional openness. Amash is currently the only member of Congress to share and explain every vote he makes on the House floor. His Facebook page (www.facebook.com/repjustinamash) lists every vote he has made since his first day in Congress, and he is one of only a few with a perfect voting record, going back to his days in the Michigan House of Representatives.
Many in the Liberty Movement have called Justin Amash “the next Ron Paul” due to his insistence that any legislation he votes for adheres to the Constitution. Whether he is or not remains to be seen, but we are excited by the prospect and are honored to have him speak at Paul Festival.
